fire tea bag

today we learnt what makes a tea bag float. we used a lighter and tea bag. we emptied out the tea then we placed it on a flat surface and then we lit it on fire and let it float.

It floated because the air inside the teabag got hot.

my first day of school

It was the first day of school and I was terrified. As soon as my
Mum and Dad went, I would never stop crying until morning tea.

Then a few days later. We had cross country. I had butterflies in
my tummy (I was nervous). The year ones were up first and i was scared.
Ready set go and we were off.

We had to run around seven corners and ran for zero point five
kilometres around the school. I was coming forth then I zoomed pass
germane then troy and I was coming second. It was up to me and Toni,
I was running with Toni but then at the last second Toni started to pick up
the speed and came first.

I felt really good because it was my first time in cross country. After the race
my mum bought me some MC Donald's to celebrate.

Child Hunger in NZ

Child Hunger in NZ
Adapted from “Child Hunger” by Ryan Laatz

Have you ever had to look into the eyes of a child and tell him that there is nothing to eat tonight? This reality for around 15 million children in America every day. This is also a prominent issue in New Zealand, where one in seven families live in poverty and 220,000 children go hungry. This means that they are missing meals or going the whole day without food. Without getting the proper nutrition, these children are not able to fulfill their potential and may be affected by poor health and a lower life expectancy.

Why does child hunger happen? Child hunger happens because children simply don't have the resources to get food. About twenty two percent of children in New Zealand live in poverty. Also about children twenty two percent of kids in New Zealand are hungry. Do you see the similarities between those numbers? Impoverished parents have a harder time providing for their families than those in higher paying careers. There are so many costs that parents have to cover such as rent, medical bills, clothes and power, there is often very little money left to pay for food. As the children are too young to work, they are not able to help their families or to buy their own food.

Why is child hunger a problem? Child hunger is a problem because it is not letting kids fulfill their full potential. Kids are still developing, and if they don't eat enough, their brain and their bodies won’t be able to completely develop. The feeling of hunger can also affect the child’s mood; they can feel stressed, anxious and lack concentration. These factors will then prevent students from concentrating on their learning at school and from having the energy to participate in sports.
This means that impoverished children are less likely to graduate from high school or university and then it can be difficult to find a well-paying job. In this case, the child may then go on to be an impoverished adult.

Are there any solutions? While there is no easy fix to this issue, there are some things that people can do to help. One solution that we could do to solve this problem is to volunteer at charities and organisations that support children. For example, you could volunteer at ‘Eat my Lunch’. Eat my lunch is an organisation that delivers free school lunches to children who would otherwise go hungry. Another way to help is that you could also start a food drive. You could organize a fundraiser of some sort, and instead of charging money to attend you would ask for canned food donations. With all the canned foods you get, you could donate all of them to a children's food shelter.
Child hunger is a major issue that the government and New Zealand society must address. Children in New Zealand aren't fulfilling their full potential and showing the world what they can do.  Child Hunger is happening everywhere, impacting everyone, and it's happening because children simply don't have the resources they need. How does it feel when you are hungry? Try being hungry everyday as a seven year old.

Chocolate Challenge

Chocolate Challenge
We are learning to justify our ideas.

Name of Chocolate PICNIC!

Whats up guys today we are going to be talk about the best chocolate in the world Which is PICNIC!

Picnic is the healthiest
  1. Picnic is the healthiest chocolate in the world. Picnic is a type of chocolate bar consisting of milk chocolate and peanuts covering chewy nougat caramel biscuit and puffed rice. Picnic bars are lumpy in shape and it  has the least amount of sugar! It is a healthy bar and will save you from having diabetes.
It's the only Bar that has peanuts in it
  2) picnic is the only bar with healthy  peanuts. That's why Picnic is the best and less fat Picnic is the best because its a bar with rice krispies? and it has lots of different ingredients

3) Picnic is a popular slogan, released in the early 2000s, was "Deliciously ugly". During the 1970s the Australian slogan for Picnic was "More like a banquet than a picnic". Picnic is manufactured by Cadbury UK

On the outside of a Moro bar it has hard chocolate but in the inside of the bar it is soft with caramel and it is made in New zealand and also Australia. We will stop people from buying moro by telling them they have a lot of fat and sugar.

Crunchy is my less favorite because it is the hard and it has lots of chocolate and I think it's the less healthiest on this list

Pourquoi tales

How the pig got a big nose

A little piglet named Alex. He was rolling around in the sticky icky mudd, having a bath. His Mother (Jenny) said “ come on you need to go school” “ok mum” said Alex

Ten minutes later

“Ok mum I’m super duper ready to go to my first day of school” said Alex. Alex waved and said bye to his mum. Alex took his first step and he fell and his nose went in a poison ivy bush and as he was at school he felt an itch on his nose so went to scratch it but when he did he felt his nose was bigger than normal and that is how the pig got a big nose

Jack and the beanstalk (unknown version)

Once upon a time there was a little but clever boy. His name was Jack. One day his mother asked him if he can  go to the town to get some bread for dinner, so he did and he also took his cow with him.

But as Jack was traveling through the woods their was two people sitting on a stump. Jack asked “if they wanted to go for a walk to the town”. The two people were thieves Jack never knew that they were thieves until he reached the front of the town.

Jack was trying so hard to play it cool. their names were Jeff and Jake. Jack went to the bakery to loaf of bread.
The thieves offered the cow for magic beans.

When Jack got home he came home with no cow only magic beans and bread. His mum through the beans outside. The next day Jack heard a loud noise coming from outside.

Jack climbed the beanstalk. It took him hours to climb the beanstalk because it just kept towering up.

At last Jack was at the top. He found a whole heap of giant coins towing up to the sealing. He never knew that there was a giant up on the top stairs crying his head off. Without a sound he went back down the beanstalk and left the giant. But he ues a giant leaf to get back down

Be a giver

Andrew Patterson came to our school and talked to us about what being a giver means and what it look likes. Being a giver means to notice someone on the streets and help them by giving them something that is yours. Just like this boy named Willy. Willy help a homeless man by giving him his lunch money buy food. I would like to be more like Willy so that I can make the world a better place.

Explanation template 2017 : Good role model

The first way to be a good role model is to help pick up rubbish you see lying around and put it in the bin so that the Earth does not get polluted. So hopefully others will see you putting rubbish in the bin and will start to copy you.

Another way to be a good role model is to clean the house so you don’t become lazy for the rest of your life. Also you should do the dishes. So that your siblings do the dishes for you and you could just sit down watch TV or play game all day.

The last way to be a good role model to respect your little ones and your elders, for example clearing the table, making the bed and looking after them. You could also help them with their garden.

That is all of my ideas.

My trip to Poly Fest

Poly Fest is a Polynesian festival. It is basely like fiafia except where games, real guns which were heavy as and there was ever a demonstration of how to put out a fire in your kitchen.

My favourite thing of the day was walking around and looking at starf, playing games, watching performance like the Maori and the Fijian group

My second highlight was getting a gift. Because there were glasses, a poster, some tattoos and a fan as well

Kawau Island

On Tuesday me and my Mum went to Pt england school. Then we got to the school we had to put the bags onto the bus. After that we to line up to go into the bus. When we got to the fairy site we got to have morning tea but the worst part was we had to take the bags off the bus and put them onto the ferry.

When we got to Camp Bentzon we had to drop our off bags. After that we had lunch. Next we went for a hike down steep Hills and up hills. The hike was very tiring, my legs were dying, because of all of the up hills and the stopping between the steep hills. Then after woods We had stuff like free time and dinner.

The next day
The next day we woke up Then we had to go for another hike up the hill (killa hill) and we had to do that for the rest of the week. When we came back we got to line up in our team line and have breakfast. We had Weet-Bix, rices, cornflakes, peaches and spaghetti on toast for breakfast and much more yummier staff for Dinner and lunch.

The activities we had to do were the burma trail, kayaking, abseiling and seiling. We needed to use a life jacket and a harness. But my Favorite thing to do was seiling. Because the water was splashing on my clothes.

When we were Finished the activities. We had to clean up the cabins. When we got to have free time. Then we had to take off our bags lay on the deck.

Holiday Highlight

In the Holidays me and my brother went to Holiday program. We went to parakai spring pools, the movies, Rock Climbing and Gravity.

It took an hour to get there. When we got there my brother and I had to listen to the safety rules. Then we had morning tea and want into the pool. They had a hydro side a pool and a spa pool.

Then next week we went to Rock Climbing. One of the supervisory said that it will take harf an hour to get there but it took twenty mins. When we got there my brother and I had to listen to the safety rules. I finished all of the walls. Then we went back to the centre.

Immersion Assembly

At our immersion assembly we had lots of fun because we ate and cooked pancakes and we also got to watch movies  that our teachers made before the school holidays.
My favourite movies was teams four and five. I liked the team four movie because it was funny and it has more interesting stuff in it like about eating too much lollies and could red bull give you wings. I knew that red bull couldn’t give you wings because red bull a fizzy drink that don’t actually give you wings and I also knew that lollies weren’t good for kids because it is not healthy for them.

I like team five’s movie because you get to know more about gas, liquid, and also solid. I really like team two’s movie because we get to check out to see which one can float and which one can sink.

fish for the future

One day me, my Grandpa, Uncle and Aunty went fishing on my Uncle’s boat. When we got there we had to leave the track. But first we had to reverse into the water to drop the boat off. Then we hopped on the bout and we travelled out far around Waiheke Island.

While we were on the boat me and my Aunty were playing rock paper scissors while we were waiting for my grandpa and uncle to pass the two fishing rods. When we got the fishing rods I caught a snapper.

When we got back to shore we went home and cooked the snapper and had fish and cream

Do you know about the ancient Olympic Games?

The Ancient Olympic Games began in 776 BC in Olympia. There one event the 200 yards Dash. Only men could compete in the nude. The games were a religious festival. They celebrate every four years for the god Zeus.

In 391 AD Rome invaded Greece. Two years later the olympic games were stopped. In 1896 a French man re-started the Modern Olympic games. Four years later in 1900 women were allowed to compete. In 1936 there was the first time the games were shown on television then it became a worldwide event.

The Olympics are held in Rio, Brazil .The team that I’m hoping to win the Olympics is New Zealand
